Alive in Christ 1
10/09/06am
Romans 8: 1
Introduction to the chapter
- `Therefore...'
- We have a gospel that has power to save people (1:1-1:17).
- The gospel is necessary because as sinners everyone is under God's judgment (1:18-3:20).
- The gospel reveals that God's solution to our problem is to justify sinners who trust in his Son, Jesus Christ (3:21-4:25).
- Being justified means that since we are saved from God's wrath we live under his reign of grace (5:1-8:39).
- ` ... now...'
- Now there is no condemnation in the present or the future (8:1-4).
- Now there is no obligation to the flesh but only to the Spirit (8:5-13).
- Now there is no spirit of slavery but rather a Spirit of sonship. (8:14-17).
- Now there is no comparison between our present suffering and the glory that will be revealed in us (8:18-27).
- Now there is no separation from God's love for us whatever happens in the present or the future (8:28-39).
