Luke 11: 1-13

Prayer

  1. It was Jesus' practice to pray
  2. Jesus answered the disciples prayer immediately with:
    • A pattern prayer
    • A parable
  3. God is your loving Father, and you are his children
  4. The parable is about::
    • The avoidance of shame
      • Eastern hospitality dictated that a meal must be provided
      • Our present culture's rejection of God, Jesus, the Church, and Scripture is shameful
    • Boldness - to knock on a friend's door at midnight
    • Persistence, leading to eangagement, relationship, truth, trust, giving, receiving, growing and changing
  5. Ask, Seek and Knock are in the present continuous tense - ask, and go on asking, etc.
    • Ask, but don't expect an immediate answer - persistence shows faith, not the lack of it
    • We are to seek the giver, not the gift
    • Knock so that the door might be opened
