Luke 11: 1-13
Prayer
- It was Jesus' practice to pray
- Jesus answered the disciples prayer immediately with:
- A pattern prayer
- A parable
- God is your loving Father, and you are his children
- The parable is about::
- The avoidance of shame
- Eastern hospitality dictated that a meal must be provided
- Our present culture's rejection of God, Jesus, the Church, and Scripture is shameful
- Boldness - to knock on a friend's door at midnight
- Persistence, leading to eangagement, relationship, truth, trust, giving, receiving, growing and changing
- Ask, Seek and Knock are in the present continuous tense - ask, and go on asking, etc.
- Ask, but don't expect an immediate answer - persistence shows faith, not the lack of it
- We are to seek the giver, not the gift
- Knock so that the door might be opened
